» Privacy Policy — Emily (macOS app)

Last updated: August 5, 2026

» The short version

Emily collects nothing. There is no Emily account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and no server of ours. Your reading list belongs to you.

» What Emily stores

Emily stores the links you save — their URL, title, site icon, your note, tags, folders, and read/archive state. This data lives in two places, both yours:

  • On your Mac, in the app's local database.
  • In your private iCloud database, so your library syncs between your Macs. This uses Apple's CloudKit, tied to your Apple Account. The data is in your iCloud storage; we have no ability to read it, and no copy of it exists anywhere else.
» Network requests

When you save a link, Emily contacts the website you saved — and only that website — to fetch the page's title and icon. This is an ordinary web request, the same one your browser would make; that site sees it like any other visit. Emily does not route your links through any intermediary service, and it makes no other network requests.

Sync itself talks only to Apple's iCloud servers, covered by Apple's privacy policy.

» Clipboard

When you open the quick-add window (⌥Space), Emily checks your clipboard at that moment for a URL to prefill, purely as a convenience. Clipboard contents are never stored unless you choose to save the link, and never leave your device.

» What Emily does NOT do
  • No account or sign-up of any kind
  • No analytics or telemetry
  • No advertising or ad identifier
  • No third-party SDKs or services
  • No sale or sharing of data — there is no data to sell or share
» Purchases

Emily is bought once, through the Mac App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details.

» Deleting your data

Delete links in the app and they are gone from your device and your iCloud database. To remove everything, delete the app's data from System Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.

» Children

Emily is not directed at children and, as described above, collects no data from anyone.

» Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Given what Emily collects — nothing — changes should be rare.
